Abstract

|
Two cases of gas gangrene, one of which involved the left thoracic wall & cavity and the other the abdominal cavity, were treated duringe the past one year (Sept.´66-Aug.´67) at General Surgical Section of The 1st ROK-MASH in Vung Tau Vietnam and those are presented in this article with their clinical manifestations, diagnosis, surgical managements and results, respectively.
The case of thoracic gas gangrene had been treated by heavy antibiotics, multiple skin incisions, and wound soakings with hydrogen peroxide solution, and recovered rather satisfactorily.
As the abdominal case showed septic manifestations and wide spreading of the lesions over the large bowel and mesentery, no othe resection surgery. could he carried out than the loop type colostomy and tube drainage of the abdominal cavity. Despite of the postoperative extensive conservative measures including the heavy antibiotic and adequate fluid & electrolyte therapy the patient expired within 21 hours after the injury (8 hours after the finishment of the exploration).
